Landmark Wholesale Start Year with Sales Boost

Landmark Wholesale has defied the challenging economic climate of the past year, by posting healthy sales for 2009 based on its top 80 Supplier sales from January 2009 to December 2009. The Group has reported sales are up 6.3% from the previous year, and is continuing the positive growth set in 2008.

In particular, notable success was achieved across the soft drinks category, up 24.2% and, despite tough market conditions, the off licence and tobacco categories were all up as well. Defying the market decline, cigarettes rose by 13.8% and, corresponding with its continued resurgence in popularity, cider increased by 18.9%. A strong Christmas showing saw year-on-year sales of spirits up 9.2%.

Managing Director, Martin Williams explained: “Whilst you cannot deny that the past 12 months has been a difficult time for businesses in general, the results of our top 80 Supplier sales, confirms that Landmark Wholesale, its Members and the Independent Sector as a whole is still performing strongly and is, in the majority of categories, in growth. These results show that Landmark Wholesale is in a healthy and solid position to build future success as the UK turns the corner out of the recession.

“We are delighted to be able to announce such strong sales growth at the start of the new year, which can be used as a platform to drive the Group forward in what will be an extremely significant period for us, with the re-launch of our Lifestyle Express retail development programme later this year.”

This adds to the positive start to the year that the Group has experienced, following two new senior appointments in the opening weeks, with Chris Doyle appointed as Business Development Director and Stuart Johnson as Retail Controller to oversee the relaunch of Lifestyle Express in Spring.
